In my 40 year IT career, I have worked primarily as a full time employee with one company. In the past few years I have been working as a contractor as the result of retiring from that company. The contract firm I have been using is Vedainfo. I can say that working with them has been more like early on in my career where I had a "real" human resources contact. They have been a partner in all aspects of the relationship. Billing, payment, conflict resolution, and most important they have been there on the phone or email in a very responsive fashion. The comfort factor they provide has taken any worries or concerns and eliminated them in a timely fashion. Vedainfo is a top shelf firm, one I have been fortunate to work with.

I would recommend them to anyone.

Thank you for all your hard work,

Sr. Service Executive

Patient Billing and Financing System

Duration 18 months
Team Size 5
Technology ASP.Net, C#.NET, SQL Server 2005

About the need:

This system is geared to facilitate an agency to provide patient billing and financing services to healthcare providers, including hospitals and medical practices. This is an innovative process that combines healthcare collection and financing.

This program consists of the following sub-systems:

Residual Balance Billing and Financing Program

  • Patient billing utilizing a card-less Visa collection process
  • No separate patient application, pre-authorization or approval is required
  • HIPAA compliant
  • Advances 50% of billed patient balance receivables
  • Agency assumes all of the cost of capital in advance. Fee is performance based and is applied only against successful collections
  • This program raises the rate of collection from the current industry average of 50% to as much as 90%. This has potential to impact healthcare provider’s profit margin by increasing it by an average of 10% to 15%.
  • Healthcare provider benefits by receiving a free advance and by experiencing a higher rate of collection.
  • Patients benefit because they can now pay their healthcare costs in a timeframe that is comfortable for them.

Insurance Receivable Financing and Collection Program

  • Program is designed to allow the healthcare provider to do its own billing, while the agency assumes the time-consuming tasks of payment posting, follow-up and collection.
  • Agency manages all of a healthcare provider’s collection process, and advances it 85% of its current insurance receivables for a fee ranging between 2.5% and 5% on successfully collected accounts that are older than 60 days.
  • Agency assumes the cost of capital on accounts that remain open beyond 60 days
  • Fee is performance based, ranging between 2.5% and 5% of collections on only those accounts that are older than 60 days
  • Healthcare provider benefits because it still owns its receivables. And it pays a reasonable rate only on successful collections.

Transportation Workflow Software

Duration 8 months
Team Size 3 Developers, 2 designers and 1 QA
Technology ASP.Net, C#.NET, SQL Server 2005

Business process of the client

The software is developed for a client located at Oakland, California. Their business is to pick up the containers [loaded / empty] from shipyard and deliver to the customer warehouse and vice-versa

How the software automates the business process?

The software will help the backend process of the business in the following process

  1. Enter and save the load / container details [it is done by the staff of the company]
  2. Assigning this job to drivers / carriers [carriers can be own carriers or can be a sub vendor]. It will be done by dispatchers / managers
  3. Status of load movement can be entered [entered by staff]  and tracked [by customers or staff]
  4. The related scanned documents can be uploaded through the software [done by staff] so the customers can view them.
  5. The needed receivables and payables can be tracked with their payment status [integration with QuickBooks software]

Actors / users of the system

    • managers [managers monitor the loads and take care of the tasks on daily basis]
    • dispatchers [ Dispatchers assign the load pickup jobs to drivers / carriers]
    • staff [staff will enter the loads and update the status of the load movement]
    • customers  [customers can see the load movement status and check the relevant documents and also the payment status]
    • carriers [ carriers can login and check the loads assigned them so they can attend the jobs and check their payment status]
    • Drivers [ drivers can see the jobs assigned to them and check their payment status]

Key feature of the system

The key feature of the software is to display LAST FREE DATE and alert [The last free date is given by shipyard and delivery appointment date. Based on these dates, the carriers should pickup the loads. The delay causes them paying more which can be avoided using these alerts. If the pickups are numerous it is very difficult to track these dates manually.

Overview

Customer is a well-known provider of consulting services in HazMat (Hazardous Materials) shipping industry. Prior to HazMat shipping, every shipper has to generate paperwork to ensure that he is compliant with US Federal and International HazMat shipping norms. Such norms include

  • 49CFR of DOT(US Department Of Transportation) for US Ground Shipments
  • DGR (Dangerous Goods Regulations) of IATA and ICAO for Air Shipments
  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) of IMO for Sea Shipments

Documenting compliance for HazMat shipments is complex and time taking. Manual documentation is also often prone to errors, as the process is cumbersome and the rules tend to change and involves mathematical calculations.

Business Challenge

The customer saw a need in the industry for a suite of solutions that reduces both complexity and time in generating the compliance documentation. At the same time, the solutions were to facilitate even a relatively lay user who is not an expert in HazMat compliance to use the service(s) and generate reliable compliance documentation

Additionally, since the end-users that generate the documentation are largely out in dockyards, the service was to facilitate a variety of computing devices – including desktop, laptop and handheld devices.

Project Description

The suite of solutions to be designed included:

  • An “Enterprise” version facilitating several users of the customer organization to perform specific tasks, including
    • User and role administration
    • Role-based definition and maintenance of parts / material to be shipped
    • Role-based definition and maintenance of packaging components, material and packing instructions
    • Creation of shipments and reports, including both compliance reports (Shippers Declaration, Bill of Lading) and other supporting documents
    • Search past shipments
  • A “One-off” version facilitating self-service e-commerce enabled solution that facilitates non-frequent users to quickly purchase credits online, create shipment(s) and print compliance and supporting documents
  • A mobile / handheld version (for iPad device) with limited functionality that will facilitate dock workers to add shipping parts to the database on-the-fly, as they are moving in the warehouse and inspecting material

Benefits Delivered

Since all the above-mentioned solutions involved similar functionality and had to use the same data store, we designed a multi-tiered architecture that separated the presentation, business logic and data storage layers that facilitated an integrated approach for all these solutions. We also implemented a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) that further enhanced the scalability, flexibility and maintainability of the system. Following are some of the advantages delivered to the customer:

  • Rapid deployment of solutions
  • All solutions share same business logic library and data access routines. This facilitated refactoring of objects, and hence reduced redundancy in these layers
  • Lesser code and hence more easily maintainable

Overview

Customer is a well-known provider of billing and financial management service catering exclusively to a Greek Community – Fraternities and Sororities. They have recently launched a new web-based portal for group management, that will promote group activity by providing effective group management, improved communication, enhanced interaction between members and increased revenue by way of donations.

A key module of this portal is to provide a facility for the group leaders to launch bulk email campaigns. Key features of the system include:

  • Intuitive, template-driven solution
  • Ability to create HTML/plain text email newsletters / messages quickly using a feature-rich WYSIWYG HTML editor
  • Email tracking and detailed analytics
  • Schedule / resend email campaigns
  • Bayesian algorithm – based SPAM score generation

Business Challenge

The customer had very limited time for development and deployment of this module. Additionally, the customer required a scalable solution that is capable of processing hundreds of thousands of emails a day.

Furthermore, by the time we were awarded this project, the project was already partially worked-upon by another team that left the project mid-way.

The initial plan was to implement a custom email processing module, which was also half completed.

The entire email campaign creation workflow was also counter-intuitive, and was prone to several limitations, and the WYSIWYG HTML editor was limited in functionality.

Solution Delivered

  • In view of the tight timelines, we successfully proposed to discard the current homegrown email processing module and implemented a robust and industry strength email service that satisfied all the customer’s requirements
  • Our team implemented the entire email campaign workflow in record time, and at the same time worked actively with the client to effectively address a large percentage of the existing limitations in the existing architecture.
  • Our team developed a scalable Windows service for email processing and tracking that is capable of running simultaneously on multiple servers and handle high loads.
  • Oure team identified and customized a feature-rich open source WYSIWYG editor to satisfy all of the customer’s requirements

Benefits Delivered:

  • Timely response to requirements in terms of both resources and timelines, take the challenge headlong and exceed client’s expectations
  • Provided consulting to the customer to suggest alternate solutions and meet deadlines
  • Delivered solutions that are scalable and gave higher ROI

The customer is using Avaya and Ascpect Dialers for its different internal processes / practices for Outbound calling hosted by British Telecom. The requirement is to replace both its existing dialers with their custom Dialer, which will not integrate into their system directly. There is a need to customize according to the new requirements and integrate the dialer with their existing legacy applications which are hosted on AS 400 Servers (IBM). Their other applications are also to be integrated into the new system in a time bound manner.

Project Description

The solution was developed into different parts

  1. Windows Service: The windows Service is developed to automate the process of creating the calling list for new dialer from flat files, which were used for previous dialers. A new windows service is developed for generation of calling lists for different processes, which is controlled by web interface developed by us.
  2. Web Interface: The web solution is developed to configure and control the windows service for creating the calling list. It also provides solution for mapping outcomes generated by the New Agent Tool bar to the legacy outcome previously used. The filters can be created for different calling list and will be used by the windows service. The web interface also controls the dialer fields based on the process.
  3. Customized Agent Tool Bar: A customized Agent Tool bar is developed on client’s dialer services using their OCX Controls. The solution is provided as a desktop solution and fields displayed on the dialer screen change from process to process. The dialer is provided with dynamic buttons to integrate with different application hosted on different servers. Based on the call status the business logic change for different processes, the dialer outcomes and other messages of the dialer and user-entered values in the dialer will be dynamically updated.
